Spirituality, Nature, Pilgrimage

The journey back to Source

Whatever has brought you here, welcome friend.

The Spiritual Journey is a long and winding one, and modern materialistic culture does not prepare us for the call of Spirit. When the time comes to set out from the comforts of our cherished ideas and beliefs, the way ahead can seem perilous. Teachers can only point the way, but you must walk the path yourself. As a fellow adventurer on the mystic way, if my words and reflections can be of any help to you in your own journey, then I shall be content.

Also on this site you can find my blog and exploration into spirituality and mysticism. It’s a glimpse into my reflections on spirituality from different stages of my own journey, and I don’t necessarily hold to everything in it any more.

As well as a home for blogging reflections of my own spiritual journey, I have also put up practical exercises and techniques which I find particularly useful so that you may try them yourself. They are in the Meditations section.

Peace and blessings to you and to all beings.

Nature Connectionreturn to the Source

Nature Connection
The wilderness is a place where we can encounter the essential facts of life. Being outdoors in nature, away from our technology, can help us to de-stress and to create space for connection with Spirit.

So prepare yourself for a life-changing journey. We organise bespoke trips out into wild places, usually mountain or forest environments, and create the context for your spiritual retreat. You will leave behind the trappings of modernity and experience life in its primal and more basic state. You will discover what makes our world so sacred, and what it means to be human.

Life is a mystery – mystery of beauty, bliss and divinity. Meditation is the art of unfolding that mystery.– Amit Ray

Life is a mystery. None of us will ever understand it all, or have all the answers. Religious people try to tell us that they know the meaning of all things. Scientists say that it is all explainable by hard facts. But there is a third way of understanding the world. By seeing the world as eminently mysterious, we discover that one of life’s purposes is to seek and discover the mystery, and find our place in it.

“Nothing is worth more than this day. You cannot relive yesterday. Tomorrow is still beyond your reach.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

The only choice we have to make is, what are we going to do in the present moment? There will always be an excuse to not start a spiritual practice. No one knows what will happen tomorrow, so we should make the most of this day.

The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.John Muir

Nature is the perfect place to escape to, to refresh ourselves, to seek inner peace. Nature and meditation go hand in hand. In many native traditions, young people would go into the wilderness on a Vision Quest. This formed them as a person and was the gateway into adult life. Mst of us know of the vitality of nature, the challenge is how to integrate it into our everyday life so that we are more connected and contented with life.

Reflections on the zeal of youth and the Dark Night of faith.

I have spent the last ten years of my life on a spiritual journey. It has taken me through zeal, into fundamentalism, into burnout and eventually losing my faith. I spent years as an atheist, then a spiritual seeker. I have been brought to a place of mystical contemplation, a place where I now can plainly see the presence of God or Spiri...

The faith of your youth was not sufficient,You have outgrown it.Like discarded clothesYou have cast it aside,And trampled it. As the hesitant adolescentDisdains the toysAnd books of her youthSo you disdain your faith of childhood,And spit on your old life. The world was so clear, when you gave your lifeFollowing the callTo the ends...

Connecting with Nature

We will never truly value the natural world until we start to connect with it and find our place. Modern life tells us that we are cut off, seperate. It tells us that nature is simply a resource for us to exploit.

But in reality we are all a part of Nature, of the web of life on our planet. Without her sunlight we fall into depression. Without her nourishing food, our bodies die. Without green and natural spaces, we become less human than we should be. The millions of lives all round us, the fellow creatures which share Earth with us, are calling out for us to reconnect with them. Only when we do so will we truly learn to love and appreciate our beautiful world.

How can we reconnect?

"The answer is never the answer. What’s really interesting is the mystery. If you seek the mystery instead of the answer, you’ll always be seeking. I’ve never seen anybody really find the answer—they think they have, so they stop thinking. But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden where strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer."

- Ken Kesey

The practice of meditation, contemplation or reflection is present in most spiritual traditions and religions.
